Our Rescue Hedgehogs

Below are some images of the hedgehogs that have been through or are currently with the sanctuary including a little background on their journey.

Bertie

Bertie

Bertie was found out and about during the day in the finders garden on 10th May 2023. Bertie weighed 421 grams when found and is struggling with his weight. He is being treated for lungworm, roundworm and fluke worm.

Wilma

Wilma came into to us the weekend of 22nd/23rd May 2023

Wilma had to be taken straight to the emergency vets as she came in with a condition called ‘Balloon Syndrome’ and a chest infection.

Balloon Syndrome usually occurs because of an injury or infection that causes a build up of gases under the skin. The skin is inflated and stretched taut and the gases need to be drained.

Wilma weighed in at 583 grams when found and has been treated with antibiotics and the usual internal parasites. Her weight is slowly increasing.

Darcy

Darcy was found out during the day on  14th May 2023 in Skelmersdale.

She weighed in at 495 grams and was hosting a number of ticks which have been removed. She has received the necessary treatments for roundworm, lungworm and fluke worm and is responding to the treatments.

We think she just wanted a trip to the seaside !

Seedling

Seedling was found on 27th April 2023 having been out on the finders lawn during the day. This little girl weighed in at 552 grams.

Initially her weight dropped but she has been treaed for the usual range of internal parasites and her weight seems to be stablising.

Petunia

Petunia was seen out during the day, over a period of a couple of days, where she did not seem to be moving. She was brought into us on 7th May 2023 weighing 700 grams.

Petunia lost weight over the first few days at the santuary but has got back upto her found weight (as at 12th May).

We are monitoring Petunia’s movements closely as she seems to be dragging one of her back legs.
